Josh Caruso adored being around other people.
‘‘He cared so much about others and always wanted to help people out.’’
Josh’s generosity of spirit continues to inspire his family, who have established The Joshua Caruso Foundation to raise awareness of the heart condition – familial hypertrophic cardiomyopathy – that took his life in August 2013
The foundation also raises funds to buy defibrillators and on March 24 will donate 10 of the machines to schools and sporting clubs, including St Mary’s Gateshead, St Francis Xavier’s Primary at Belmont, Wallsend Touch Football Association, Valentine-Eleebana Junior Rugby League Club, Newcastle City Touch Association and Newcastle Jockey Club.
Hundreds paddle out in teen son’s memory
By Sam Rigbey – 30 Dec 2013 – Newcastle Herald
FINGAL Bay was unusually rough when the Caruso family woke early Monday morning.
By afternoon, as hundreds gathered for a memorial paddle out for 13-year-old Josh Caruso, the tide had subsided and the wild waves and whitewater had vanished.
‘‘It was a bit rough, but it calmed down when we started paddling out,’’ Josh’s father Joe Caruso said.
‘‘That was Josh watching over us.’’
Mr Caruso, his wife Belinda, family and friends, including those from the Wallsend Touch Football Association and Valentine-Eleebana junior rugby league club, and residents and holidaymakers at the Fingal Bay Holiday Park, gathered past the breakers for a celebration of Josh’s life.
They laid wreaths in the water, scattered rose petals, held hands and remembered the good times.
A lot of those treasured memories had occurred at Fingal Bay, Josh’s favourite holiday destination, where his family had spent numerous school holidays and long weekends over the past 20 years.
